Bashundhara Shuvosangho, a social and humanitarian wing of Bashundhara Group, has distributed sewing machines to 40 underprivileged women in Chuadanga Sadar and Damurhuda upazilas, helping them turn their skills into sources of income and self-reliance.
The initiative provided three months of free sewing training before handing over the machines. Twenty women from Chuadanga Sadar and another twenty from Damurhuda received the support, made possible under the guidance of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and the leadership of noted writer Imdadul Haq Milan.
At the ceremony held at the Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. Saifullah handed the sewing machines to the beneficiaries. Among the guests were Social Services Officer Moumita Parvin, One-Stop Crisis Cell Project Officer Illin Sultana, Chuadanga District Press Club President Advocate Manik Akbar, Chuadanga Press Club President Rajib Hasan Kochi, and senior representatives from Bashundhara Foundation and Shuvosangho.
Speaking at the event, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman said, “Under the chairman’s directive and Imdadul Haq Milan’s planning, we aim to make marginalised women self-sufficient. Over the past three years, we have gifted more than 3,000 sewing machines nationwide.”
He emphasised that the machines are not charity but a tool to restore dignity and financial independence. “This gift will help women sustain their families and change their life stories,” he added.
Local Shuvosangho leaders, including Chuadanga District General Secretary Hemonto Kumar Singha Ray, highlighted the group’s continued work to raise social awareness and uplift underprivileged communities.
Several beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to Bashundhara Group. Kulsum Khatun from Chuadanga town said, “With this machine, I can finally support my family and bring back stability. I’m truly thankful to Bashundhara Group.”
Another recipient, student Zarin Tasnim, said, “My education was about to stop due to financial hardship. Now I can continue my studies by earning through sewing.”
Similarly, Damurhuda’s Sharmita Khatun shared, “This machine will help me pay for my education and reduce my family’s financial stress. I’m very grateful to the chairman.”
