Commerce Minister GM Quader Tuesday highly praised Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate, for its good role in producing eco-friendly products and expanding global markets for local exportable products.
The applause came at the inauguration of a three-day Greentrade Investment Bangladesh Summit organised by the Bashundhara Group in the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
The minister also opened a concurrent event styled ‘Marinetech Bangladesh Expo’ at the same venue.
“Many quality products are being produced in Bangladesh, but people living abroad are not informed of this,” Quader said.
His deep sense of appreciation went to the Bashundhara Group for organising such an exceptional event.
“Like the Bashundhara Group, every corporate house should organise such events and participate in similar ones being held abroad,” he added.
The minister said Bangladesh is really fortunate that its people are working hard abroad. Business in Bangladesh is moving fast since it enjoys duty-free access to the US, Canada and the EU markets and it is situated between two fast moving economies – India and China, he noted.
Despite repeated strikes, sieges and violence, foreign investors are thinking about investment in Bangladesh, Quader pointed out.
Deputy Managing Director of the Bashundhara Group AKM Mahbub-uz-Zaman said his company is trying to introduce environment-friendly products to cope with the demands of the time and for a better living.
“Like other countries, Bangladesh is also taking various steps towards sustainable development. We welcome those initiatives and also want to contribute to the country’s development,” he said.
Some 70 participants from 10 countries, including Switzerland, Germany, China, Italy, America and Malaysia, are taking part in the fairs.
Eco-friendly cement, equipment for eco-industrial plant, solar panel, CNG and cost-effective welding systems and other environment-friendly products are being showcased.
Chaired by Buet Prof Dr Azizul Mowla, Danish Ambassador Svend Olling, Bangladesh Accreditation Board Chairman Advocate Mainuddin Miaji and Bangladesh Indenting Agents’ Association President KMH Shahidul Haque, among others, spoke on the occasion.
