World media praise Bashundhara Dredging

Dredging Today, world’s leading online news agency on dredging engineering, has posted a report on the success of Bashundhara Dredging Company Limited (BDCL).

Through successfully implementing different government projects adopted to improve navigability of the inland water-transport routes, BDCL has gained appreciation from the international media as well, reports banglanews24.com.

Bashundhara Dredging, a sister concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, is a renowned name in the dredging sector of Bangladesh.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan recently inaugurated a dredging project on the bank of Buriganga near Shyambazar in the capital, Dredging Today reports.

“Under this project, at least 31,500-cubic-metre poisonous polythene and other wastes would be removed from the riverbed,” said a BIWTA source.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has taken the initiative to secure navigability in the Buriganga, besides freeing the river from pollution. BDCL is playing a vital role in this project, the report added.

“Three ultramodern excavators, collected by BDCL from Japan, are being used in the project,” said a BDCL-insider.

Praising BDCL’s success in dredging sector, the minister, in his inaugural speech, said, “I believe that BDCL has the capacity to implement the Dhaka Circular Waterway Project successfully.”

BIWTA Chairman Dr Shamsuzzaman Khandaker said, “With the assistance of BDCL, three new long-broom excavators have been added to BIWTA’s collection for the first time.” He said besides the Buriganga, to remove wastes from the riverbed, dredging would be conducted in Balu and Turag rivers also, both surrounding the capital, to recover the navigability of those rivers.

Two dredgers of BDCL dredging fleet, Basundhara CSD-1 and Basundhara CSD-2, are at present working to recover the navigability from Sadarghat to Ashulia.

Among others, BIWTA officials including Member (Engineering) Firoz Ahmed, Chief Engineer (Dredging) Md Abdul Matin, and Director (Port) Shafiqul Islam were present the occasion.
