The Bangladesh Media Club Ltd., a new platform for journalists and other professionals, was launched in the capital on Monday.
Managing Director of Bashundhara Group and Director of the club Sayem Sobhan Anvir inaugurated the Media Club on its premises at Tejgaon in the capital.
A discussion followed by an iftar mahfil was held at the club on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sayem Sobhan Anvir said, “I dreamt of establishing a club for the media personalities. I am happy to be here at the inaugural function. Although the club has started its journey as a small entity, it should not be considered small at all. I cannot take the club forward alone. Collective efforts from all of us are needed for this. The club will be a place for the professionals.”
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon, Chairman of Bangladesh Juba League Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Awami League central leader Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury and lawmaker HM Ibrahim also attended the function.
Bangladesh Pratidin Editor and club President Naem Nizam presided over the launching ceremony.
State Minister Mirza Azam said he is well-connected with the media community. “It will be a great privilege to be associated with this club,” he said, adding: “I will do everything I can for rapid development of this club.”
“As the Managing Director of Bashundhara Group is involved with this club as its director and patron, the club will emerge as the number one club in the country,” Mirza Azam added.
Naem Nizam said almost all the clubs in the country are dominated by a certain group of professionals. “But we have established a different type of club where 85 percent members will be journalists and 15 percent will be other professionals, including doctors, engineers, university teachers, lawyers and actors.”
The club will start its journey formally after Eid with all facilities, including restaurant and cultural events.
HM Ibrahim MP, Alauddin Nasim, club secretary Ashok Chowdhury, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Shaban Mahmud and Saiful Huda and also spoke on the occasion.
