Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan mourns

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Sunday expressed profound sorrow at the death of veteran politician and eminent business-entrepreneur Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu.

The ruling Awami League lawmaker and valiant freedom fighter died of kidney complications early Sunday at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore at the age of 67.

The chairman of the country’s leading conglomerate—Bashundhara Group—also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In a condolence message, he said, “Akhtaruzzaman Babu achieved people’s confidence in politics and also worked relentlessly to boost economic development of the country.”

Apart from his politics, he was one of the organisers of the country’s liberation war in 1971 and also a farsighted organizer for the economic and industrial development of the country, the Bashundhara Group chief added.

Akhtaruzzaman thought of the poor and common people and worked for their welfare, he further said.
